Situated along a bay protected by the Pakleni Islands, Hvar Town is the most sought-after destination for a vacation on the island. The town is an important port of arrival for boats from Split and is truly an ideal place for a complete vacation combining history, nightlife, and relaxation

If you're here for historical visits, Hvar Town boasts a beautiful heritage due to its quite intense past. You'll find numerous buildings constructed during the Renaissance, as well as notable landmarks like the Venetian fortress Spagnola and the French fortress Napoleon.

A very beautiful historic church, the Franciscan Monastery, is a wonderful idea to visit in Hvar! This building, constructed in the 15th century, now houses a museum displaying various objects and relics, as well as paintings. You'll also appreciate its cloister on a promontory facing the sea

In addition to historical visits, the marina offers a pleasant view of the crystal-clear waters, with beautiful shores ideal for walking. Hvar Town is also a great spot to enjoy the nightlife with trendy bars and clubs that attract a young crowd eager to party!

Within Hvar Town, accommodations are plentiful. The price range is quite extensive, including options for budget travelers visiting Croatia. However, this town is not at all recommended for those seeking a quiet place to sleep. If that's the case, I have better proposals

Vrboska is a very beautiful municipality located on the coast of Hvar Island, once a simple fishing port that has now become an attractive destination for many travelers! The village stands out with the islets in the center of the bay, connected by bridges, earning it the name Little Venice, and it's certainly fitting!

The village features typically Mediterranean architecture, with its old stone houses, old churches, small squares, and narrow streets. Indeed, the Church of St. Peter and the Church of St. Lovrinac are two buildings to see, but the most popular remains the Fortress of Saint Mary of Pity.

You will also find other must-sees like the Fishing Museum, a true local pride, as well as the Kastilac, a watchtower dating back to the 16th century. Of course, you can also indulge in more relaxing activities, such as spending time in the square, enjoying the sun, and swimming!

Although the summer season is marked by festivities and some activities, most of the time, the village of Vrboska is relatively quiet. It's a great base for families visiting Croatia with children. In terms of accommodations, there are plenty of options, and you will find something suitable for your needs!

Located at the eastern tip of Hvar Island, the village of Sucuraj is a superb spot to discover the most beautiful Croatian beaches. It is renowned for offering lovely beaches, coves, and pleasant bays for sunbathing or swimming in the crystal-clear waters...

Throughout its existence, Sucuraj has been dominated and developed by various populations: Illyrians, Romans, Slavs, Venetians, and French. You can find buildings in Venetian or Baroque style, notably the Church of Saint Ante Padovanski, the Monastery of Saint Augustine, and the Church of Saint Juraj.

From a tourist perspective, I advise you to taste the local wines at one of the many restaurants in Sucuraj! Perna Bay and Mlaska Bay are two superb spots to discover for sunbathing, featuring a beautiful stretch of fine sand, quite rare since pebble beaches are more common!

Ideal for family or couple vacations, Sucuraj also has shops, cafes, bars, and various typical restaurants. Accommodations are also varied and suitable for all budgets

Where to Stay in Sucuraj on Hvar Island?

Studio Manora Sucuraj is a small 16m2 studio, pleasant, well-equipped, and furnished. It has a kitchen, a double bedroom, a bathroom, and a small balcony with a view of the sea. Available at $65 per night, you will be only 200 meters from the Česminica beach in a picturesque and peaceful corner.

Apartments IDA Sucuraj offers charming vacation studios located in a peaceful area. They include a bedroom with a large double bed, a sofa bed, a fully equipped kitchen, and a bathroom. You will also enjoy the terrace and a barbecue. For about $60 per night, you will stay near a grocery store, beach, restaurants, and various small shops.

When to Visit Hvar? What Season to Explore Croatia?

when to visit Hvar

The best times to explore Croatia, especially Hvar Island, are in the spring and autumn when there are far fewer people on the beaches and in the most beautiful villages. During these periods, the weather remains pleasant and sunny all day, perfect for enjoying swimming!

In addition to enjoying really ideal temperatures, these two seasons are also interesting in terms of accommodations and flight tickets. If you want to travel to Croatia affordably, this is the time

Of course, I can certainly recommend July and August. This is the summer season, the peak tourist season with its share of advantages and disadvantages. While the summer season is really enjoyable for fully enjoying the beach, it's also the most expensive and sought-after season.

How to Get to Hvar Island?

If you're wondering how to get to Hvar Island, you're right to ask the question. This destination does not have an international airport, so you will need to reach the island by ferry from Split!

Most ferries arriving at Hvar Town come from Split, so you will really have no choice but to fly to Croatia, reach Split port, and sail to Hvar Island. Other ports, like Stari Grad and Jelsa, are also accessible, depending on your final destination.

Ferries run daily throughout the year, and several times a day during the summer.

Want to Cross Croatia by Car?

In that case, head to the port of Split to head toward Stari Grad. Or, sail to the port of Drvenik, a locality situated between Split and Dubrovnik, and make the crossing to Sucuraj. From there, just travel across the island to your final destination. If you want to spend one or more nights in Split to explore the city, I also have a guide on the best accommodations where to stay in Split

That's it for this article! I hope it has helped you find a place to stay on Hvar Island for your next getaway to Croatia! Feel free to leave a comment if you have any questions
