Where to Stay in the Seychelles?
The Seychelles represent a dream destination for many people ️ This paradise archipelago, known for its white sandy beaches, crystal-clear waters, and constant sunshine, attracts thousands of tourists seeking relaxation. If you are considering visiting the Seychelles soon, you should look into booking your accommodation! Finding lodging is a crucial part of any stay, but it's especially important in the Seychelles since the archipelago consists of several islands. Between Mahé, La Digue, and Praslin, these three locations are among the best places to stay in the Seychelles
In this guide, I propose to share more about the main islands of the Seychelles, their advantages, as well as the best establishments to stay in. Between dream beaches, wild nature, vast relaxation spaces, and moments of escape, let's organize your stay in paradise together!
Prepare Your Vacation in the Seychelles
No surprise, a trip to the Seychelles requires solid planning! This destination is far from trivial due to the budget it entails. The sooner you book your plane tickets and accommodation, the more peaceful your departure will be...
When it comes to finding a place to stay, several options are available to you! Many people hire a travel agency to find luxury hotels by the sea, but you can also manage on a tighter budget if you do your own research. To find the best deals, what better platform than Booking.com?
Take the time to study all the available offers. For this, start at least two or three months in advance, or even earlier! This way, you'll have enough time to conduct your research, make comparisons, read customer reviews, and move on to booking. As for the plane tickets, it's necessary to book as soon as possible! Don't gamble on last-minute deals, especially for this type of destination. Book flights several months in advance to get the best online rates for a trip to the Seychelles! Then, you'll have peace of mind!
Where to Stay in the Seychelles? Stay on the Island of Mahé!
Highly frequented by tourists, Mahé is the largest and most populated of the Seychelles islands. It is known for its white sandy beaches, lush green mountains, coral reefs, and rich marine life. For many, the island represents a first choice!
The capital of the island, Victoria, is the smallest capital in the world and offers a mix of colonial architecture and lively markets. You will find national parks like the Morne Seychellois National Park and botanical gardens such as the Vallée de Mai Botanical Garden.
Activities available on-site include scuba diving, hiking, fishing, and discovering local wildlife and flora. Of course, don't forget to relax on the most beautiful beaches of the island like Beau Vallon, or those at Grand Anse Village and Anse Boileau resorts! These are renowned for their beauty and pleasant atmosphere.
If you are looking for a bit more tranquility, then prioritize the south of Mahé. This part of the island is known for its white sandy beaches, crystal-clear waters, and steep cliffs. The fishing villages like Baie Lazare and Anse Royale offer a glimpse into the traditional life of Seychellois, along with local restaurants serving seafood cuisine. The south of Mahé is clearly an ideal place to relax, reconnect with nature, and explore the wonders of the Indian Ocean while escaping the massive waves of tourists
Where to Stay in the Seychelles on the Island of Mahé?
The Quadrant Luxury Apartments are beautiful apartments located in the center of Victoria and close to Beau Vallon Beach. Spacious and bright, these establishments are an excellent option to consider for accommodation in the Seychelles. Apartments with terraces are available starting at $185 per night.
If you are looking for a bit more tranquility, I can recommend Fisherman's Cove Resort located at Beau Vallon. You will enjoy one of the most beautiful beaches on the island along with an infinity pool. Located a 10-minute drive from downtown Victoria, the 5-star establishment offers rooms and suites starting at $384 per night.
For those with a higher budget, I suggest Constance Ephelia, a magnificent property bordering a private beach offering rooms, suites, and villas. This upscale and luxurious resort is the perfect place to escape from the tourist crowd. Staying at this resort, you will benefit from restaurants and bars, and a private garden. Expect to pay a minimum of $415 per night for a double room.
On the side of Anse Royale, you can stay at Ocean Terrace. The hotel offers a magical setting between modernity, luxury, and tradition. It is equipped with an outdoor pool, a gym, and the rooms are, of course, comfortable and equipped. Plan for a minimum of $175 per night including breakfast.
How to Access Mahé Island?
By choosing to stay on Mahé, getting to the island is not complicated at all! It is the main island of the Seychelles and therefore has an airport. This airport is served by Seychelles International Airport, which is a 20-minute drive from downtown Victoria!
There is no direct ferry to reach Mahé, but you can take a ferry to the other islands of the Seychelles and then move around by taxi or bus. As for cruises, the island often has a stopover, so why not leave the ship and stay on the island for a while?
Where to Stay in the Seychelles? Stay on Beautiful Praslin Island!
A popular destination and the second largest island in the Seychelles, Praslin Island boasts lush vegetation, idyllic beaches, and rare flora and fauna, particularly the coco de mer palm, which only grows on this island and on the neighboring island of Curieuse. The island is also known for its Vallée de Mai National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, which is home to giant coco de mer palms, a dense tropical forest, as well as numerous endemic animal species and stunning waterfalls!
If you want to stay on the northern part of Praslin Island, you will find beautiful swimming spots like Anse Volbert and Côte d'Or beach. These locations feature plenty of infrastructure as well as bars, restaurants, activities, and excursion departure points
Where to Stay in the Seychelles on Praslin Island?
Staying at Palm Beach Hotel is an interesting and budget-friendly option. Located in Grand Anse, the rooms are comfortable and most have an ocean view. It's a perfect plan for lodging near the must-see locations of Praslin and just a 10-minute walk from Vallée de Mai. For a night in this 3-star hotel, expect a minimum of $190 including breakfast.
At a higher level, Hotel Le Duc de Praslin offers a unique experience with its luxurious rooms, suites, and apartments. You will be just a 10-minute drive from the Praslin Nature Reserve, provided that the hotel also offers vehicle rental. Expect to pay a minimum of $650 for a night in a double room including breakfast and dinner.
Located near Côte d'Or beach, the Pirogue Lodge offers nice spacious rooms with balconies. You can also enjoy the hotel's restaurant where you can taste local and international dishes throughout the day. For a night at this establishment, plan for at least $220 per night.
How to Access Praslin Island?
The fastest and most convenient way to access Praslin Island is to take a flight from Mahé International Airport to Praslin Airport. The flights are frequent and last around 15 to 20 minutes, but if you are staying in Mahé, the sea route can also be interesting.
Indeed, you can take a ferry from Mahé Island to Praslin Island. The ferry ride takes about 1 hour, and companies offer several connections per day. If you're on a cruise in the Seychelles, it's likely that you'll make a stop at Praslin. Cruises may stop at the Baie Sainte Anne port, where you can disembark and explore the island for the day.
Seychelles: Staying on La Digue Island
Finally, note that La Digue is the smallest of the three islands mentioned in this guide. It is highly appreciated for its white sandy beaches and turquoise waters that attract thousands of tourists from around the world each year. La Digue is home to a beautiful lush tropical forest and abundant wildlife (lemurs, sea turtles, and rare birds). It's an ideal destination for those who would like to relax, explore the wild nature, and see the world's most famous beach: Anse Source d'argent
Generally, life is quite calm and peaceful on the island, with few cars and paved roads, making it an excellent place to disconnect from the modern world. However, accommodation options are much fewer, and the island increasingly attracts visitors. If you want the chance to stay in the best hotels on La Digue Island, be sure to book your accommodation as early as possible.
Where to Stay in the Seychelles on La Digue Island?
Although options are limited, it is possible to find affordable lodging in the Seychelles. For example, Pension Michel is a guesthouse that offers beautiful family rooms in a warm setting! Restaurant, bar, and shared garden are available for visitors. You can stay in a family room with a terrace starting at $166 per night including breakfast.
If you have a bit more to spend, consider an experience at Domaine de l'Orangeraie Resort and Spa. This is a luxury establishment to consider for a relaxing vacation complete with spa treatments, restaurants, pools, and sports activities. You will need to spend at least $640 for a night in this establishment.
Located just a 5-minute walk from downtown the island, Repaire offers rooms equipped with a private balcony. Overlooking the island, with views of the ocean and a beautiful outdoor pool, this establishment is an excellent place to sleep and relax in the Seychelles. For a night in a double room, expect to pay a minimum of $295 including breakfast.
How to Access La Digue Island?
Unfortunately, you cannot fly directly to La Digue. However, you can take one of the many direct flights to Praslin from Mahé, the capital of the archipelago. From there, you can take a ferry to get to La Digue Island.
Many ferry companies operate routes between Praslin Island and Mahé Island. From there, you can easily reach La Digue by boat. For example, from Praslin, the journey takes about 30 minutes, and tickets can be purchased in advance or on-site.
Other Islands to Stay in the Seychelles
In the Seychelles archipelago, which consists of 115 islands, you can of course stay elsewhere! Others are also beautiful and worth the detour for many reasons Some are nearly deserted and will give you the feeling of being alone in the world on a paradise island... This is a dream for more than one person!
Among these other islands is Cerf Island, at most 5 km from Mahé, and part of the Saint-Anne Marine National Park. It's a favorite spot for snorkeling Round Island, a private islet where you'll experience Robinson Crusoe-style life but in a luxury version with underwater sights also warranting a diving session Finally, Silhouette Island, one of the largest islands in the Seychelles by area, accommodates only 150 people, whom you can mingle with for an afternoon or overnight.
Whether you're looking to explore exotic nature or seeking a privileged and luxurious experience, all these islands will meet your expectations... And if you are really looking for a luxury hotel on a deserted island for a honeymoon or the like, you will find the holy grail on Desroches Island, Denis Island, and Cousine Island.
The Best Accommodations on These Deserted Islands
On Round Island, you can only stay at JA Enchanted Island Resort Seychelles! This 5-star establishment directly located on the beach of the deserted island promises you a dream vacation. The hotel offers villas with private pools, as well as suites and rooms amidst lush nature where you'll find another pool, a spa, a restaurant, a bar, etc. For the night, expect a minimum of $670 in low season, including breakfast.
On Desroches Island, you will find my ❤️ favorite in the Seychelles, the Four Seasons Resort Seychelles which stretches across the island's 6 km expanse. Exclusively for hotel guests, no less than 14 km of beach is available for enjoying relaxation and turquoise waters. Luxurious decor, luxurious facilities, gourmet restaurants... Everything is designed for you to feel like a king. Special mention goes to the hotel's dock at sunset. For a night, expect to pay $1,200 minimum including breakfast.
On Silhouette Island, discover the Hilton Seychelles Labriz Resort! It is the only accommodation available on this islet and is of course located directly by the sea. This very luxurious resort features 7 restaurants, 2 pools, a spa, a bar, and many more facilities designed to ensure you have a dream stay. For a night, expect a minimum of $387 including breakfast.
Where to Stay in the Seychelles? My Opinion for a Great Vacation
All options are good for staying in the Seychelles. However, I really recommend that you discover the three islands to enjoy your vacation and see as much as possible Of course, this will depend on your budget.
Undeniably, the island of Mahé is an excellent option for easily finding hotels and other accommodations for all budgets. Although the Seychelles remain expensive, you will still find lodging at affordable prices. Moreover, staying close to Victoria and the boat departure points will allow you to visit the other islands freely while saving time and money.
If I had to choose, I would recommend less staying on La Digue Island, but that's just my opinion! While its size and lesser tourist influx are advantages, prices can quickly escalate. Additionally, accessing the island takes a bit more time! Ideally, dedicate one or two nights to La Digue to enjoy its wonders, or rather prioritize Praslin Island for practical reasons
How to Choose the Island and Place to Stay?
The Seychelles are a rather unique archipelago that requires time to understand in order to get the best benefits from it! Among the main islands, you will find Mahé, Praslin, and La Digue: these three places are ideal for staying and relaxing on-site! Of course, it's better not to choose a place randomly, and you will not fully enjoy your vacation without visiting each of them. The main advantage is that many boats allow for transport between the different islands! Several shipping companies offer regular connections throughout the day, with quick and affordable trips.
Choosing to Stay on a Single Island
The first option is to choose a single island to stay in the Seychelles. This is a good idea, although common, but you must be strategic. Choosing a single island means choosing a lodging close to the boat departure point to save time and money!
Also, don't delay in booking your accommodation! Rates rise very quickly. Of course, take the time to select lodging with the best value for money, but do it in advance!
Book Several Nights on Each Island
This second option is very interesting in my opinion! Staying a few days on each island provides a rich and varied experience worth trying. But to truly benefit, I recommend booking at least 2 nights in each establishment! Additionally, this will allow you to organize your days more easily and participate in your activities. In this case, there's no need to book multiple boat trips to reach activity points since everything will happen locally!
Of course, feel free to organize your stay as you see fit. If one island interests you more than another, you can spend more time there. Nevertheless, I am quite inclined towards this way of operating, which will undoubtedly grant you a magical experience in the Seychelles!
