Where to Stay in Auckland?

The Central Business District, or CBD, is the most central neighborhood of Auckland. It is bordered by the waterfront and extends to Karangahape Road, another area we will discuss in this guide! The city center is undoubtedly the best place to stay, with its many attractions, shops, and entertainment!

Staying in downtown Auckland is definitely the best option if you want to do and see as much as possible during your vacation. First, you'll easily enjoy the bars and restaurants, especially if you plan to go out and experience Auckland's nightlife.

Ideally, I suggest staying near Queen Street. This is a shopping street that houses many fashion boutiques, trendy bars, and shops. Grafton, the Best Place to Stay in Auckland for Peace

Considered the quietest neighborhood to stay in Auckland, Grafton is aimed at travelers seeking tranquility. It is located to the east of the Central Business District and to the west of Auckland Domain, making it a truly excellent location since it is the oldest and largest park in the city.

The advantage of this neighborhood is that you can enjoy a relatively peaceful stay while being close to downtown Auckland. Overall, you can say that Grafton is a nice place to live, especially if you are near Newmarket, one of the best shopping destinations in Auckland.

You won't necessarily find tourist attractions within this neighborhood, but in terms of accommodations, there are some beautiful vacation apartments. Grafton is rather recommended for families visiting New Zealand with children, as well as for those who genuinely want to sleep in a calm place.

Karangahape Road, Ideal for Enjoying Nightlife

Where to go out in Auckland? At Karangahape Road! Located south of the Central Business District, it is one of the liveliest and most festive neighborhoods, with a somewhat bohemian vibe that will appeal to many. It revolves around Queen Street, the most commercial and important thoroughfare in Auckland, as well as Upper Queen Street.

Also known as K Road, this area is home to a large number of bars, restaurants, and nightclubs! For those who enjoy a wild night out, I must mention that Karangahape Road also hosts quite a few sex shops and strip clubs.

In addition to offering a superb location close to everything, you'll find street art, art galleries, and a large community of artists and musicians. In terms of accommodation, there are plenty of options, many of which cater to backpackers.

Unsurprisingly, I recommend this neighborhood to those coming to party in Auckland and who are looking for constant energy, knowing that the local population is quite young. Conversely, for travelers seeking peace, this is definitely not the place for you; keep looking...

Here, you can visit the New Zealand Maritime Museum and head to Halsey Street Wharf to watch the ships from the docks while relaxing on benches and green spaces. Moreover, the North Wharf area is delightful for a stroll while admiring the beautiful marina.

The advantage of staying in this area is that you will enjoy a truly pleasant atmosphere during the day and plenty of liveliness once night falls. In my opinion, it's an excellent balance to take advantage of, provided that you have enough budget to afford sleeping here.

What is the Best Season to Visit Auckland?

New Zealand enjoys a mild and temperate climate! If you want to take advantage of the summer heat, I recommend visiting Auckland between December and February, with temperatures ranging from 25 to 30 degrees.

If you don't like hot weather, you can plan your stay in Auckland in March, during the autumn season. Rain is rather occasional, but temperatures remain very stable, around 15 degrees. Of course, feel free to leave at the beginning of the month to enjoy the last bits of heat.

How to Get to Auckland?

To get to Auckland in New Zealand, you will inevitably need to fly.

Plan for at least 25 hours of travel, including a layover in most cases. From Charles de Gaulle Airport, most layovers are in Doha, San Francisco, Shanghai, and Singapore. If you are departing from cities like Bordeaux, Nantes, or Marseille, plan for 2 layovers, one of which will be in Paris, Amsterdam, or Frankfurt.

And yes! New Zealand is one of the most distant destinations from France, if not at the other end of the world. In terms of budget, plan for at least €1000 for a round-trip ticket.

To ensure you benefit from the best offers, don't hesitate to check a flight comparator like Ulysse! It will directly offer you the most advantageous tickets.

Auckland Airport is about 30 kilometers from downtown. To reach Auckland Central, you can take the Skybus shuttle that will take you there in 45 minutes for €10 per person.

Of course, it is possible to rent a car or take a taxi.
