When discussing Sicily, people often only mention beach resorts, ancient cities, and Etna, yet the Italian region/island is also home to some real picturesque treasures within its lands, particularly in the following villages where you can immerse yourself in typically Sicilian culture All are worth the detour and why not spend a night in a traditional or even upscale establishment:

Noto, in the province of Syracuse, saw the birth of the Baroque style in its historic center after a terrible earthquake in the 17th century. All the monuments of the old town are now listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, making Noto one of the most beautiful towns in Sicily.

Enna is a charming fortified town at 900 m above sea level on Mount San Giuliano. It is often referred to as the belly button of Sicily due to its central geographical position.

Ragusa is not far from Noto in the southeast of Sicily, and the city comprises an upper and a lower part (the historic center), which houses the renowned St. John the Baptist Cathedral.

Modica also illustrates the Baroque style in Sicily as it is located in the Val di Noto. The most striking monument of this architecture is the San Giorgio Cathedral, also classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

In Trapani, there are squares, palazzi, a cathedral, and churches as found everywhere else in Sicily... But there is also the Ligny Tower, a building that overlooks the coast like a lighthouse, housing a history museum. South of the town, there are also salt marshes that offer a landscape worthy of the Camargue right in the middle of Sicily You'll also find some beaches in Trapani, but like in Milazzo, they are not the most beautiful, though this access to the sea allows for trips to the Egadi islands ️

Marsala is a bit further south than Trapani; it is even smaller and less frequented, making it an ideal destination if you seek calm and serenity for your vacation. Moreover, Marsala boasts one of the largest stretches of fine sand beach in Sicily, Lido Signorino. This beach is very lightly frequented and still quite wild, so it's a ❤️ for me!

Temperatures remain warm in September, but begin to cool down in October and November. If you want to avoid the summer heat while discovering Sicily more peacefully, winter can be an option, though some tourist attractions may be closed or have reduced hours. Lastly, regarding summer, I do not recommend it: high prices, extreme heat, and tourist overpopulation!
