For Split, the months of May, June, and September are perfect. It's a lively city with beautiful beaches, so avoiding the summer crowds while enjoying the warm weather during these months will be an excellent choice

If you plan to explore Zadar and Rijeka, you can also visit them in spring or autumn. They are slightly less touristy than their neighbors but remain very pleasant to visit in the low season.

Conversely, if you really want to visit Zagreb, then spring and autumn will be the best periods to prioritize. In winter, Zagreb is also nice with its Christmas markets despite the cold!
