Corsica is a world of its own. It's an experience that engages all five senses waiting for the traveler: a sensational journey!

Head to the Isle of Beauty for a road trip in the southern part of the island for a dose of eternal summer. On the agenda: departure from Ajaccio, discovery of the regions of Sartenais Valinco, Bonifacio, Porto-Vecchio, and to conclude beautifully, Castagniccia.

Road Trip in Corsica: The Best Way to Discover the Island

Corsica is an amazing island: the landscape changes at every turn (and there are many twists in Corsica!). Even if a Corsican once told us:

Its roads seem to have been created for the pleasure of traveling: a perfect place for a road trip! The kilometers add up, as do the viewpoints, alternating between sea and mountain. Leaving one for the other only offers a better panorama of the landscape. How beautiful the coast is from above! And how impressive the mountains are from the coastline!

That's what I love about Corsica: whether by sea or mountain, there's no need to choose!

Many twists and turns in Corsica? Not at all! There are only two, one that turns left and one that turns right!

10 Days of Road Trip and a Packed Itinerary!

We covered many kilometers on this island... And yet, we only saw the southern part, from Ajaccio to Cervione, first along the coast (Porto Vecchio, Bonifacio) and returning through the mountainous center (via Venaco).

Here's a condensed summary of 10 days of road trip, in words and images, and I will talk more in detail about these different regions in upcoming articles.

Ajaccio

Starting point and endpoint of our road trip: Ajaccio. After the Travel Bloggers' Salon #WeAreTravel15 held at the Congress Palace of the city, we enjoyed the beginning of our trip wandering through the alleys and exploring a bit of the old town, the port (where we even spent 2 nights on a sailboat!), the market, and the surroundings.

When it comes to activities, special mention goes to hiking and scuba diving; and I fell in love with discovering the countryside and the experience of sleeping on a boat in the port of Ajaccio.

Sartenais Valinco

A region that was completely unknown to me and many beautiful (and delicious!) discoveries.

Our adventure in the Sartenais Valinco region begins with a day-long expedition from Ajaccio. On the agenda: history at Filitosa, and gastronomy at Villa Guidi. A perfect day!

Our other two major favorites in the Sartenais Valinco region: the Campomoro tower, the most massive of the island's Genoese towers, and the town of Sartène, >!

A favorite for the citadel on the cliffs and its medieval streets: an open-air museum. Not to be missed, visits to the Bastion of the Standard and the King's staircase of Aragon with its 187 steps.

And how can one not fall in love with the Lavezzi Islands? The > live up to their reputation! I will never tire of this turquoise sea...

Porto Vecchio, a small medieval town, has a beautiful church and above all, above all... dreamy beaches!

Special mention for the concert of Corsican polyphonic songs in the Church of Saint John the Baptist.

Between Corte and Bastia, in the territory of Haute Corse, Castagniccia is often overlooked by travelers... And yet! Yet it is probably the region we preferred! Yes, they may not have the most beautiful beaches in Corsica, but the people are so welcoming, so deeply passionate about their island and their region. And the food is great (especially the chestnut, which gave its name to the region!). And for a road trip, it's the ideal setting.

Special mention for the village of Cervione, the seaside horse ride on Anghione Beach, and the hike to the summit of Mount San Petrone, the highest point in the region.

Our Good Addresses

Our good addresses will be detailed by region in each of the articles dedicated to them. Generally, here's our > for a road trip in Corsica.

I recently discovered this company founded in Germany and present in Europe and worldwide, which collaborates with local partners. Good rates and decent service. The highlight of this road trip: an upgrade to a higher category when we went to pick up the car! Very comfortable, especially when traveling with 3 adults (with our friend Manu from Voyage Avec Nous) with all the luggage and camping gear!).
