Best Things to Do:

You can't visit Rome without tasting its national specialties. I have already shared addresses of the best gelaterias in Rome, and now, why not go out and enjoy a good slice of pizza? The problem is, there are so many pizzerias in the Eternal City that you probably won't know where to eat the best ones.

To help you, I will introduce you to my top 10 favorite addresses. Of course, there are many others worth visiting, but you have to start somewhere, right?

If you are visiting Rome in 3 days, you cannot miss the pizzeria Pizzarium Bonci! Located in the Vatican area, it's one of the most famous pizzerias in Rome and even in Italy. According to locals, these are indeed the best pizzas in the city (there's always a queue outside!).

Since 2003, Pizzarium Bonci has been serving pizzas made with fresh, organic, and seasonal ingredients, a crispy crust, and original flavors.

Note that two establishments have opened in the USA: one in Chicago and another in Miami. The pizzeria is open from 11 AM to 10 PM every day except Monday (closed) and Sundays (from 11 AM to 3 PM and from 5 PM to 10 PM).

Pizzeria Italia dal 1987: the locals' favorite pizzeria

Opened in June 1987, the Pizzeria Italia dal 1987 is located in the Villa Borghese neighborhood. The best part is to go buy your pizza slices and then enjoy them in the most beautiful and largest park in Rome. Anyway, there aren't many tables to eat on-site!

Locals love the pizzas from this establishment because they are made with care (with a dough rising time that can reach 72 hours) and with authentic, always seasonal ingredients.

You can order both classic pizzas and pizzas with curious flavors, such as Nutella pizza. The pizzeria is located at Corso d'Italia 103, 00198 Rome and is open from Monday to Saturday from 9 AM to 9 PM.

La Pariolina: another favorite spot for Romans

Born in the 1960s, La Pariolina, located outside the historic center (in the Parioli neighborhood), is another of the favorite pizzerias of Romans.

Locals love to come here because they can choose their dough style (thick or thin) and because the prices are affordable. Additionally, the dishes are carefully prepared with fresh ingredients, and the bistro atmosphere is very pleasant.

The chef also offers traditional Italian menus based on simple recipes (such as pasta dishes).

What's special about this pizzeria is that it offers a new pizza recipe every month (depending on the seasonality of the products). The establishment is located at Viale Parioli, 93, 00197 Rome.

Opening hours:

  • Weekdays: from 12:30 PM to 3:00 PM and from 7 PM to 1 AM
  • Weekends: from 12:30 PM to 4 PM then from 7 PM to 1 AM

Forno Campo de 'Fiori: the pizzeria that gets to the point

Located in the historic center, the reputation of this establishment is well-established. Why? Because since 1970, Forno Campo de 'Fiori has been making the same pizzas. Namely, the white pizza (pizza bianca) and the pizza with tomato sauce (pizza rossa). Here, there's no original topping or extra; it's all about satisfying a craving with a good homemade pizza made from high-quality ingredients!

You can also buy bread and pastries here, but you can't eat them on-site. The products are only for takeout. Located at Piazza Campo de' Fiori, 22, 00186 Rome, the restaurant is open from 7:30 AM to 2:30 PM and from 4:45 PM to 8 PM.

La Pratolina / La Pratolina Cipro: the specialist of "pinsa romana"

If you want to discover the pinsa romana (Roman pinsa), this is the best place!

The Roman pinsa is a type of small, oval pizza but with a thicker crust. It is baked on stone and topped with your choice of mushrooms, cheese, cold cuts, etc. You can even choose it with a white or red crust (with tomato sauce, of course). It's a must-visit spot to enjoy pizza in Rome!

Note that the slices of pinsa at La Pratolina are generous, so you'll have a hearty meal.

You can also order fried vegetables like zucchini flowers, various appetizers, and desserts (tiramisu, pie, cheesecake, chocolate mousse, ice cream...).

The pizzeria is located near the Vatican, in the Prati district. Be sure to reserve a table as it's always very busy. It's open from 7 PM to midnight every day except Sunday.

Suppli: the pizzeria that sells its pizzas by weight

Located in the Trastevere neighborhood, Suppli or Supplì Roma or La Casa dei Supplì (The House of Supplì) is the best pizzeria al taglio (by the slice) in the city.

Open since 1979, it serves various types of pizzas with vegetables, mushrooms, meat, seafood... but be careful, you buy them by weight! This is the hallmark of this tradition called "pizza al taglio," meaning pizza by the slice (in rectangular form).

This establishment mainly serves supplì (hence the name of the pizzeria). These are rice croquettes coated in breadcrumbs and eggs, filled with various ingredients (like tomato and mozzarella) and then fried.

In addition to supplì, you can also order calamari, arancini, lasagna... In short, it's the ideal place to grab a quick bite between visits.

The only downside is that the place is small, and there's usually a crowd because the food is good and cheap. The establishment is located at Via di S. Francesco a Ripa, 137, 00153 Rome, and is open from 10 AM to 10 PM, closed on Sundays.

Pizzeria Dar Poeta: a wide range of products

Located on a small street in the Trastevere neighborhood, the pizzeria Dar Poeta is also one of the quality establishments in Rome.

The reason for its popularity is simple: to make their delicious pizzas, the owners (three friends) use ancient manufacturing techniques. Namely, a dough that rises for 48 hours and wood-fired cooking! They are also very mindful of their customers' dietary needs. It's a must-visit place to enjoy a good pizza in Rome.

Therefore, on-site, you'll have a selection of many pizza toppings, but you can also order other types of Mediterranean-inspired dishes. Enjoy spaghetti, meatballs, chicken, grilled fish....

A tip? Try the house pizza, the Dar Poeta pizza with mozzarella, chili, sausage, and zucchini...) and their unique dessert: Nutella and ricotta calzone.

Oh, and I forgot to mention: to avoid waiting, reserve a table. And please, on the terrace! The opening hours are from noon to midnight.

Emma Pizzeria: the chic pizzeria

At Emma Pizzeria, they use quality ingredients (flour, vegetables, and organic meats), both local (Parma ham, Burrata from Andria...) and international (French cheese, for example), always seasonal. And all this results in an incredible pizzeria!

But wait, that's not all: you can also order gourmet menus and beautiful desserts crafted with the finest ingredients (tiramisu, cookies...). Not to mention their excellent wine list. In short, Emma Pizzeria is a luxurious pizzeria but with fairly affordable prices!

I recommend reserving a table before heading to this establishment located on a very busy street in the center of Rome (near the Pantheon). Yes, it's usually crowded! It's open from 12:30 PM to 3:30 PM and from 6:30 PM to 11 PM.

Located 15 minutes from the Trevi Fountain, Pizza Florida is probably the pizzeria in the city that offers the best quality/price ratio. It's also one of the best places to eat pizza with children!

Here's why: you buy your pizza by weight (2 euros/100g). This allows you to try various flavors: margherita pizza, olive pizza, vegetable pizza, meat pizza.... It's open from Monday to Saturday from 10 AM to 10 PM!

Il Fiorentino: a friendly pizzeria for a family meal

Located in the San Giovanni neighborhood, the pizzeria II Fiorentino with an authentic Italian ambiance offers large wood-fired pizzas.

It's the perfect spot if you are visiting Rome with family. Moreover, the prices are fair, and the service is excellent! Plus, you can also enjoy some very good desserts. It is located at Il Fiorentino, Via del Pigneto, 87, 00176 Rome, and opens from 7 PM to midnight, closed on Wednesdays.
