During your vacation, you will have the opportunity to discover the old town of Chora dominated by its Venetian castle, the beaches of Plaka and Agios Prokopios, and explore ancient ruins... How to find accommodation in Naxos?

Although Naxos is not as well-known as some neighboring islands, it remains the largest island in the Cyclades and a truly pleasant destination. But be careful, I strongly recommend that you book your accommodation in advance! Naxos is still a tourist destination that many wish to discover

Ideally, I invite you to stay in Chora/Hora, the island's main town. It is the most convenient base for exploring the surroundings and enjoying a wide variety of accommodations. Other locales are interesting if you're targeting the west coast, but it depends on your preferences and what you are looking for in your stay!

Always remember to book a hotel room as soon as you know your dates. The downside of waiting too long is that the most popular establishments fill up in no time. The consequence: you may be forced to settle for less quality accommodations or a bad location!

Naxos Chora, the best place to stay on the island

As the main town of the island and a popular destination for maximizing activities, Chora remains an authentic and picturesque town. In addition to its breathtaking landscapes, you will have the opportunity to discover all the history and culture of the island, while enjoying a large variety of available accommodations.

One of the most iconic attractions in Chora is the Portara, an impressive marble gateway dating back to antiquity, which stands at the entrance of the port. This place offers panoramic views of the Aegean Sea, especially at sunset. Nearby, the Venetian castle Kastro is another must-visit site with its very narrow streets and medieval buildings for a complete immersion in Naxos' past!

The beaches are also a major asset in this part of the island, especially with Agios Georgios beach attracting all water sports enthusiasts, while Grotta beach offers a more tranquil atmosphere with crystal-clear waters and stunning views of the Portara.

Of course, you will also visit the old town of Naxos Chora, a maze of cobbled streets where you can stroll and explore shops, traditional taverns, and cafes. By the way, be sure to pick up local products like graviera and kitron, two specialties you will discover

Archaeology should also be highlighted during your stay by adding a visit to the archaeological museum of Naxos! It exhibits an impressive collection of ancient artifacts, and if you prefer the arts, choose the Naxos contemporary art gallery to discover works by local artists.

Lastly, do not miss the opportunity to hike in the mountains surrounding the city, where you can explore preserved traditional villages such as Filoti and Apiranthos

What is the best time to travel to Naxos?

The best time to visit Naxos is during spring and fall. The temperatures are pleasant for outdoor activities such as village tours and hiking. During these times, the beaches are less crowded, which is a huge advantage for relaxing and enjoying water sports.

However, the high tourist season can also be interesting. The temperatures often reach 30 degrees, making swimming very enjoyable. Now, it is important to note that summer remains an expensive season if you have a medium or limited budget, especially for plane tickets and accommodation prices.

As for winter, it is not really a great time. Most activity providers close their doors, and some sites are inaccessible. So this is a period I do not recommend, as it is not that stimulating
