If you're vacationing in Sicily, visiting Mount Etna is absolutely essential. This majestic volcano, the tallest in Europe, rises to over 3,300 meters above sea level and is one of the most active and fascinating volcanoes in the world. Etna is a true force of nature, constantly erupting, with regular tremors and lava flows reminding Sicilians of the raw power of this giant. In fact, its last eruption was in 1992, but signs of its activity remain visible all the time.

To reach the summit at exactly 3,343 meters, you must be accompanied by a professional guide. This is due to the fumaroles, which can sometimes be toxic!

So, I suggest this guided hike to the summit of Mount Etna, at 3,343 meters, which will also give you the chance to ride the famous Etna cable car . The excursion, accessible from €110 per person, starts from the Sapienza Refuge in Nicolosi and will take you past several highlights: the viewpoint on Valle del Bove, considered the best panoramic viewpoint of Etna, then the Barbagallo craters at 3,000 meters altitude.

To get to the summit of Mount Etna, you will first need to take the road from your chosen drop-off point for your stay. You'll have two options: either go on your own with your personal vehicle or rental car, or join an organized excursion.

When I climbed Mount Etna, it was in the midst of August, and looking back, I think I wouldn't choose this period again, although the experience was totally crazy!

Mount Etna can be visited year-round, although winter conditions can be more complex in case of snow. Autumn offers truly exceptional shades of orange in contrast to the dried black lava.

The mid-seasons offer truly ideal conditions for ascending Mount Etna, as prices are lower and the tourist crowds are less. Summer represents the high tourist season, so there might be quite a crowd during your ascent, and the temperatures may be too high, making the hike uncomfortable. Next time, I won't miss my chance to go to Sicily to climb Mount Etna between September and December!
