Where to Stay in Kotor?
Traveling to Montenegro always means breathtaking landscapes and paradise-like views that you can't get enough of If you're planning to visit Kotor soon, finding the best accommodation is essential for enjoying your stay and discovering as many places as possible. To help you organize your trip, this guide highlights the best spots to stay in Kotor, along with my selection of good addresses
How to Find a Place to Stay in Kotor?
Kotor is a fortified town that spans just 33,500 hectares, so it's not very large. As a result, to find accommodation, you won't have any option but to stay in the old town. This is the most popular and convenient base to explore the city and visit historic monuments. The historic center also allows easy access to museums as well as all amenities and shops
If you've rented a car, the range of possibilities will greatly expand! Indeed, several villages within the municipality of Kotor occupy the bay. They are interesting places to stay near the old town and are great starting points for exploring the region or going on a road trip in Montenegro. In terms of budget, accommodations are affordable and accessible to everyone; that won't be the most critical criterion
In this article, I have selected several places where to sleep in Kotor: the old town of Kotor, Dobrota, Muo, and Skaljari. The last three villages are located close to Kotor, so you won't have to drive much. They are also convenient for reaching the airport. In the rest of this guide, you will learn more about these locations, activities to do, and available addresses.
If you don't have the time or desire to read the entire article, below you will find my selection of 3 very interesting accommodations!

- 2Montenegro MIMOZA Apartments is a charming and comfortable apartment that features a terrace and a balcony with stunning views, available from $102 a night.
The Old Town, the Best Neighborhood to Stay in Kotor
The old town is certainly the best place to stay to discover Kotor! The historical center of the city, it is among the most vibrant and touristy spots. In terms of accommodation, you won't have trouble finding a place to sleep since the old town is home to various hotels and vacation apartments, at varied rates depending on the chosen location. Overall, the center of Kotor is an excellent choice
The historic center of Kotor reveals all that is charming, starting with cobblestone streets, old houses, and picturesque architecture punctuated by small squares. You can enjoy some restaurants, bars, and cafes to relax while observing local life. Despite the tourism, you will have a great time spending time in these corners.
Historically, the center of Kotor houses several remarkable sites such as the Kampana Tower, a bastion from the medieval era that is part of Kotor's ramparts and offers a panoramic view. It also includes the Romanesque-style Saint Tryphon Cathedral dating back to the 12th century, the Sea Gate, as well as the Old Town fortress and a few museums, such as the maritime museum of Kotor and the historical archives museum.
Tivat Airport is also nearby, about 10 kilometers away Of course, I recommend booking as soon as possible to have enough choices in terms of accommodation.
Where to Sleep in Central Kotor?
The Royal House offers beautiful comfortable accommodations with traditional decor. Perfectly located in the old town of Kotor, you will be welcomed by charming and attentive hosts. Affordable, you should budget around $92 a night for a 44 m² apartment with private parking.
The Old Town Youth Hostel is the perfect address for small budgets. For just $54 a night with breakfast, you will enjoy a very comfortable dorm bed. The hostel also offers private rooms and features an indoor pool, a café-bar, and a lounge.
Dobrota, a Paradisiacal Setting on Kotor Bay
Dobrota is located in the municipality of Kotor and is a perfect base if you are looking for a quiet place away from the crowds, without straying too far from the activities of the old town. This location is one of the most beautiful in the region with its paradisiacal setting and natural beauty! It may not necessarily be the most touristy spot in Kotor, but you will have the chance to stay in truly privileged conditions.
All the natural landscapes surrounding Dobrota are perfect terrain for hiking The mountains and the bay of Kotor offer superb panoramic views, especially if you decide to walk to the old town in about 1 hour. Skaljari, a Charming Village Known for Its Natural Beauty
Perfectly nestled between the mountains of the region, I recommend Skaljari, which will likely suit travelers in search of natural discoveries. This village is only a 10-minute drive from Kotor, but you can also reach the old town on foot, which takes about 1 hour of walking. Besides being charming, the village of Skaljari is the ideal place to taste Montenegrin culinary specialties!
From a tourist perspective, the Skaljari fortress is a must-visit point. However, you should mainly focus your activities on discovering numerous spectacular viewpoints such as the Tivat Bay Panorama, the Bay of Kotor, and Mount Lovcen if you take the Kotor Serpentine. This scenic road is a must when visiting Montenegro and offers 1 to 2 hours of exceptional landscapes
The village itself is charming, with picturesque architecture and a traditional ambiance. Choosing to stay in Skaljari will also give you proximity to the airport. However, if you come by car, I highly recommend booking a hotel with private parking. Parking spaces are rare within the village and you could waste a lot of time
