To start, it's important to understand that Cassis is not a very large town. So if you want to give yourself the best chance, it's imperative to ask yourself what you are looking for during your stay and gather all the information that will help you better target your future accommodation.

This typically Provençal village has many attractions: a pleasant port, beautiful sandy beaches, exceptional natural sites, and a lifestyle that is highly praised by tourists. Between hiking and water activities, there is plenty to do, and choosing your accommodation well will be essential.

You have several options such as staying in the old town of Cassis or by the port to benefit from the most central location possible. Now, if you come to the south to visit the calanques, it would be wise to target the peninsula near Port Miou, a strategic spot.

Budget travelers might consider nearby towns like La Ciotat or Marseille, which dominate either side of the city of Cassis. In any case, booking your nights as early as possible is crucial to obtaining hotels at the best prices and ensuring a wider range of choices.

  • According to us, the Hotel Le Golfe is the best address we found to sleep on the port of Cassis! It is located a bit more away from the hustle of the quays and offers superb rooms starting from €143 per night.
  • Our second favorite goes to the Hotel de la Plage, which boasts a truly exceptional location near the calanques. Available from €184 per night, this establishment features a spa, a bar, a terrace, and a restaurant.
  • If you have a somewhat tighter budget, we recommend a stay in this lovely apartment located in the center of Cassis. For one night, expect to pay about €109 for double occupancy, or €98 per night for one person.

Old Cassis, a beautiful option to stay in the center!

Commonly known as Old Cassis, the old town offers typically Provençal charm with its antique architecture, pretty orange-colored houses, and flower-filled streets. It is here that you will taste the charms of the southern French atmosphere, with beautiful terraces and local shops.

From a tourist perspective, you can learn more about the history of the French Riviera by visiting the Municipal Mediterranean Museum of Art and Traditions. Beautiful paintings from the Roman era as well as temporary collections depending on your stay in Cassis are exhibited here.

A stroll through the old town is an absolute must, starting off by discovering must-see monuments like the Four Banal de Cassis, a museum reconstructing the everyday life of the 17th century with furniture, period ceramic tools, and perfectly preserved to this day.

In terms of accommodation, the old town of Cassis has few hotel establishments but it is here that you observe a high concentration of house and apartment rentals. While you can manage all your moves on foot, there are still parking lots and bus stops.

If you prefer to sleep by the port, you will benefit from a really privileged location with superb views of the Mediterranean and easy access to numerous restaurants, bars, and shops. The port of Cassis is located between Bec de l'Aigle and the cliffs of Cap Canaille, offering a truly exceptional viewpoint!

By staying here, you will inevitably be able to participate in beautiful excursions to the calanques of Cassis as well as water activities such as scuba diving in the crystal-clear waters. Or, you can just relax on the terrace while admiring the Pointus, the small fishing boats.

The port of Cassis has an abundance of accommodation options but relatively few hotels. Houses and rental apartments will make you happy, with a prime position to enjoy Provençal life and a relatively quiet atmosphere. Of course, let's not forget about the fish market every morning!

Regarding the price of accommodations, there are options across the board. Some accommodations offer fairly reasonable rates while others are quite expensive due to the privileged setting. If you come to Cassis with a car, I recommend parking your vehicle a bit further north in the city center.

Want to visit the calanques of Cassis? In that case, you should stay west of the city center, around Port Miou on the peninsula. Besides offering a stunning viewpoint of the bay, it is the best place to quickly access the natural park, away from the tourist hustle and bustle if you prefer a more tranquil spot.

The Cassis peninsula is a highly regulated area with few cars allowed to enter. In addition to its very limited access, you can engage in beautiful outdoor activities such as paddle boarding, tennis, walks, water sports, and swimming at Bestouan beach especially.

Of course, hiking to the calanque of Port-Miou is a must! It is the easternmost calanque, situated between Marseille and the city of Cassis. It is much longer and winding, with opportunities to swim in its turquoise waters. While hiking, I recommend walking to the calanque of Port Pin for its wild beauty, then continuing to the calanque of En-Vau.

As for accommodations, it is a residential area with many seasonal rentals and luxurious homes. Again, you'll find no hotels here. Although prices are higher at Port-Miou than at the port of Cassis, it's a lovely spot if you're coming for hiking.

What is the best time to visit Cassis?

Like many cities located on the Côte d'Azur in the south of France, Cassis is a city that can be explored year-round due to its pleasant Mediterranean climate. If you are looking for where to go for sun in April, it can be a great destination Of course, the summer season is clearly the best time to fully enjoy the sun and spend as much time as possible on the beach!
