As one of the most popular cities to visit in Montenegro, only certain parts of Budva encompass many accommodations, so you'll need to target your search well. To save you time, 3 areas are to be prioritized: the harbor area, the historic center, and the beaches of Budva
By searching in these 3 areas, you can be sure to find accommodation among the many options available. Generally, prices are relatively interesting and accessible to all budgets, although some high-end establishments can be quite pricey.
In this guide, we will take the time to discover together what each neighborhood in Budva has to offer, along with some recommendations for the best places available. A section will also be dedicated to the seaside resorts located near Budva that could very well become your future base!

Where to stay in Budva? In the historic center!
Surrounded by ramparts, the Budva Riviera is a true seaside paradise infused with its timeless medieval charm. It's an excellent base where you can discover beautiful remnants from the medieval era, when the Romans occupied the territory before it fell under Venetian control.
It's worth noting that the old town of Budva has withstood the ages while preserving its unique character, strongly contrasted by a breathtaking seaside setting! Inside its imposing ramparts dating back to the 15th century, there are cobblestone streets, centuries-old churches, Venetian palaces, and picturesque squares... You will also take the time to admire the beauty of the stone buildings with their unique facades!
Beyond its historical character, the old town of Budva is brimming with local artisan shops, traditional restaurants, and rustic taverns where you can explore the flavors of the region This area is renowned for its beautiful beaches, including Mogren Beach, Riviera Beach, and Slovenska Beach.
To have the chance to stay inside the ramparts of the Budva Citadel, I encourage you to book as soon as possible! Accommodations are limited and mainly consist of guesthouses and apartments/vacation homes. Hotels are a bit rarer in this area.

If you have a rental car, you might consider venturing away from Budva to stay in Kotor, a port city located 55 minutes north. Nestled at the end of Kotor Bay, its historic center, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a must-see!
Surrounded by high medieval walls, the town of Kotor is sprinkled with cobbled streets, squares, and well-preserved historic buildings. It is known for its significant architectural wealth, with Venetian, Slavic, and Byzantine influences throughout its fortifications, palaces, and churches. For example, the St. Tryphon Cathedral, dating from the 12th century, is a beautiful example of Kotor's treasures

When to visit Montenegro?
Montenegro enjoys pleasant temperatures year-round, ranging from 32 to 33 degrees starting in May. Therefore, I highly recommend visiting Budva in the spring, ideally from April onwards, to enjoy a warm climate without being disturbed by summer tourist crowds!
During this time, you can fully enjoy the beaches and sunshine and perhaps go on beautiful hikes in the Montenegrin nature If you're worried about the heat, you might plan a trip in March or wait until the end of summer, preferring fall in October.
