Finding the Meaning of Life with the Bucket List
What meaning should we give to our lives? What are our priorities? Should all dreams come true? So many questions to which the Bucket List provides some answers. For those who question their lives, want to reorient themselves, or simply seek self-fulfillment, I invite you to discover more about this beautiful concept.
What is the Bucket List?
I discovered the concept while watching the movie: The Bucket List, released in 2007, starring Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson. This film tells the story of two men who are polar opposites in life, except for one commonality: they are both suffering from terminal cancer. What to do when you have only a few months left? While one retreats into himself and the futility of his life, the other begins to make a list of what he would still like to do before he dies. And that is how a beautiful experience begins.
We didn't need to exchange a single word during the movie, a simple glance was enough:
And so we spent the night dreaming about our desires, from the most fundamental to the wildest. Gradually, the idea of formalizing this list took shape, and we eventually published it on our first travel website.
Of course, it is not exhaustive and it grows over time: we can't help but keep dreaming!
Not so simple...
It is about compiling a list of things you would like to do in your life. Some set a specific number, for example >.
The idea is dreamy (that's the point!), but while some ideas appear quickly, inspiration can quickly run dry for others.
Another way to look at it is to say:
After spending the initial time squandering money on some villas, cars, and paradise trips... imagination often runs dry as well.
How to Imagine Your Bucket List?
Behind this concept of > lie crucial questions that every human being should ask themselves at some point in their life.
The 3 Real Questions
It's time to demystify the famous fairy tale saying >: for you, what does it mean to be happy?
Traveling to (re)connect...
4 Reasons to Ask Yourself These 3 Questions
These big questions are worth asking, whether you are a fan of the > or not. And for 4 reasons:
- Take stock: reflect on what you expect from your life and your definition of a happy life. This allows you to refocus on your values and priorities.
- Be an actor in your life: set your goals, which will allow you to achieve them later.
- Self-fulfillment: with each item you check off on your list, you will feel a sense of well-being and fulfillment. It's amazing what a simple checkmark next to your dream can bring you in happiness.
- Stay on course: sometimes, we lose our way, we stray from who we are and what we want in life. This list is the tangible (and even spiritual) link that will help you find yourself and return to what truly matters to you.
A Commitment to Oneself
More than just a list, for François and me it's a true pact: we have the duty to fulfill these dreams! And regardless of the time, energy, and money it may take.
So, if we have the opportunity to strike off one of the items on our list, we cannot just wave it off and say > or >, or even >.
No! Avoid regrets, don't wait any longer, and take action!
An Impossible Bet?
Put all your dreams on this list, the countries you want to visit, the things you want to see, the experiences you want to have or learn... Whether you're into thrill-seeking, culture, archaeology, gastronomy, photography... all your tastes are welcome here to (re)connect with your sometimes buried dreams.
And remember that few things are impossible! Don't limit yourself when creating your list, truly let your imagination run wild. We already restrain it enough during the day at work: let it take the wheel!
Don't say to yourself:
If you want it, it's within your reach.
Everything is a matter of choice and priority. Look at life from this perspective, and you will see it in a completely different way.
How to Write Your Bucket List?
Let your hand run on the keyboard or your pen scratch on paper. If it doesn't come naturally or your imagination dries up, you can structure your list in two different ways.
The first way to categorize your dreams is to do it by action: where I want to go, what I want to see and visit, what I want to do... As we've done on our website.
The second is thematic and is divided into 4 points:
- The trips you want to make.
- The life experiences you want to try (for example: swimming with dolphins, skydiving...)
- The knowledge: what you want to learn (for example: Japanese, a musical instrument, taking courses)
- Life goals. Personally, I haven't included this last point, but you can add your projections for the future here: for example: getting married, having 2 children, living in a certain country, doing a certain job...
Transforming Dreams into Projects
Don't wait any longer, take some time for yourself and jump in! If your ideas seem > or on the other hand >, don't worry: all these dreams are part of you. We only have one life, let's create it in our image.
Let's take responsibility for our life and our happiness: let's be the hero of our own adventure!
