Where to Stay in Albufeira?
A remarkable tourist destination if you're unsure where to go in Portugal, Albufeira is an old fishing village that has quickly distinguished itself among travelers. Whether you're planning a few days of vacation or intend to visit the Algarve and its iconic spots, you're probably looking for the best place to stay in Albufeira, right? Well, you're in the right place! In this guide, I'll share my favorite neighborhoods and some of my preferred addresses. Let's get started!
How to Find a Hotel in Albufeira?
Before I provide more details about the best neighborhoods to stay in Albufeira, a few quick tips will be helpful to prepare for your search. In terms of accommodations, this seaside resort has plenty of options-you'll need to study the neighborhoods carefully to make the most of your stay!
There aren't many neighborhoods in Albufeira, but they each stand out with their own ambiance. Ideally, staying in the old town is perfect for enjoying a charming, typical, and lively atmosphere. Conversely, a spot in The Strip district promises a festive vacation to enjoy the nightlife in Albufeira
If you're looking for a quieter area, focus your search on Montechoro! Located in the new town, this area is a bit more remote but remains an excellent place to stay in peace. Lastly, the Marina will suit anyone wanting to admire the coastline while staying on the marina.
Of course, there are other areas like Sao Rafael, a residential neighborhood known for its tranquil atmosphere and chic character. Far from the historic center of Albufeira, it's not the option I would recommend unless you're seeking a location close to the Algarve's most beautiful beaches!
Finally, I encourage you to book your nights as soon as possible. Albufeira is a highly sought-after destination by tourists, and many establishments fill up quickly, especially in the city center. So, don't wait until the last minute, or you might be stuck with a subpar hotel!
Where to Stay in Albufeira? The Old Town, the Best Option!
Charming and lively, Albufeira's historic center offers the ideal atmosphere if you're visiting the Algarve with family. There are quite a few accommodation options, and you'll be enchanted by the typical character of Portuguese houses, cobblestone streets, and the joy of the change of scenery
Among the highlights of the old town is Jardim Publico, a lush haven that brings together various plant species. This garden also serves as the main square, where you can fully enjoy the vibrancy of the historic center with various restaurants, cafes, and bars to spend quality time!
Staying in the old town provides the chance to take several strolls through its streets. In doing so, you'll discover beautiful spots as well as cultural institutions such as the Archaeology Museum or the Museum of Sacred Art, the latter housed in a lovely historic chapel Additionally, you'll be close to beautiful Algarve beaches, notably Praia del Túnel and Praia dos Pescadores, two lovely stretches of sand to enjoy the Atlantic and the southern sun ☀️
Overall, staying in the old town is an excellent choice and a safe bet. Ideal for families, couples, or solo travelers, this neighborhood provides everything needed for a delightful stay!
Where to Stay in Central Albufeira?
Casa Malpique offers excellent value for money with comfortable and pleasant rooms available from €76 per night with breakfast included. Choosing this guesthouse places you just 400 meters from Pescadores Beach and 100 meters from the center. The establishment features a beautiful sunlit terrace, an outdoor pool, and serves a hearty breakfast featuring local specialties!
Vila Algarvia Boutique & Suites offers beautiful, comfortable, well-decorated accommodations right in the historic center. You'll find a bar, a terrace with sea views, a garden, and free parking. Starting at €117 per night, with breakfast, you'll stay in a prime setting just a few meters from the Fishermen's Beach and Peneco Beach.
The Strip, the Most Festive Neighborhood to Stay in Albufeira
Often compared to Las Vegas for its lights and sparkling signs, The Strip is the headquarters for night owls and young travelers coming to party in Albufeira. This long street is illuminated by neon lights, filled with trendy restaurants, bars, nightclubs, and above all, excitement!
Although The Strip avenue is crowded with music and people throughout the night, it remains quiet, even deserted during the day. Nearby, Praia Da Oura offers great entertainment, including water activities and a relaxed atmosphere.
Not surprisingly, The Strip isn't suitable for travelers seeking tranquility. On the contrary, this area attracts young people looking to party! The main thoroughfare is very noisy and lively. In terms of accommodations, prices are quite varied and affordable for budgets.
Where to Stay in The Strip Neighborhood?
If you're on a tight budget, the Smy Santa Eulalia Algarve offers fantastic value. For a night, expect to pay around €36 for a fully equipped 50 m2 studio. These accommodations are 700 meters from the Strip's activities and feature an outdoor pool with a terrace. The onsite staff is friendly and helpful, and many shops are nearby, including a grocery store.
The Areias Village Beach Suite Hotel is a 4-star establishment located just 500 meters from The Strip! It offers beautiful, fully equipped, modern, and spacious apartments starting at €136 per night. Onsite, you'll enjoy an outdoor pool, parking, a restaurant, and a bar.
Montechoro, where to enjoy the fun while staying in peace
Where to Stay in Albufeira Peacefully? The Montechoro area is particularly interesting as it offers a good compromise between festive activities and a quiet stay since it's located north of The Strip Avenue, within the New Town
Although Montechoro does not house notable monuments or cultural sites, it represents a pleasant place to stay. It's perfect for tourists wanting to enjoy the nightlife without being disturbed by the music from the avenue or the noise from partygoers when it's time to sleep.
If you have a rental car in Albufeira, Montechoro may clearly suit you. This neighborhood is somewhat removed from the historic center and the beach, about a 30 to 40-minute walk. Nevertheless, I think budget travelers will find their happiness here since this area offers accommodations at attractive prices!
Where to Stay in the Montechoro Neighborhood?
The Vila Petra is an ideal address to enjoy all the activities of The Strip while staying in a calm environment. This establishment offers large, fully equipped studios starting at €93 per night. It has 2 restaurants, 3 pools, a spa, a bar, and a gym.
The SunHouse Room is definitely suitable for budget travelers since this guesthouse offers a comfortable room for only €38 per night. This accommodation has an outdoor pool, a sunlit terrace, and an ideal location near bus stops and Strip activities. You'll be welcomed by a helpful, friendly, and warm owner!
São Rafael, Chic and Tranquil
Even quieter and more peaceful than Montechoro, you can stay in São Rafael, a rather upscale residential neighborhood far from the historic center and the city's hustle and bustle. Located to the west, up on the heights of the town, this area is one of the chicest in Albufeira, and since it's somewhat out of the way, the supply of rental accommodations is quite limited. You'll mostly find large family villas and independent apartments.
I primarily recommend this area to those who want to enjoy a serene and family-friendly atmosphere, close to local life. Since you'll be far from the historic center (about a 40-minute walk), I suggest staying here if you have a rental car. On the other hand, a major advantage of the area is its privileged setting, close to some of the most beautiful beaches, such as Praia de São Rafael and Praia dos Arrifes ⛱️
My Selection of Accommodations in São Rafael
To maintain your independence, you can stay at the Apartamentos Sao Rafael, starting at €125 per night for two people. You'll enjoy an outdoor pool, a garden, a bar, and a balcony with a sea view. The apartment features two bedrooms, allowing accommodation for 4 people, whether as a family or with friends Plus, you're only 500 meters from São Rafael Beach!
If you have a larger budget, are looking for more comfort, or are traveling with a group, Villa Thetis by Atlantic Places is also an excellent accommodation option! This large villa can accommodate up to 9 people and features a large outdoor pool, a garden, a pool table, a ping pong table, and private parking. Fully equipped, the house is available for rent from €280 per night.
The Marina, Ideal for Staying at Albufeira's Marina
Considered one of the best places to stay in Albufeira, the Marina offers a pleasant maritime ambiance with its beautiful marina ⛵️ Everything is designed for an enjoyable stay, with small colorful houses, a beautiful view of the Atlantic, and an authentic atmosphere where life is good
Situated west of the historic center, the Marina does not concentrate monuments or museums but allows for numerous sea excursions. Among the most popular is the visit to the Benagil cave, one of the most beautiful spots in the Algarve, located just 150 meters from Benagil Beach, famous for its ceiling opening!
Ideal for a romantic stay, the ambiance offered by the Marina is perfect for walks and moments of relaxation by the marina. For instance, you can easily have a drink along the coast while enjoying the scenery... Better yet, why not patiently wait for the sunset?
Although some travelers may not linger much at the Marina, I believe it's a great base despite being removed from the old town. It will suit those looking for sea excursions or those who want a truly peaceful stay... In terms of accommodations, there are plenty of rentals!
Where to Stay on the Albufeira Marina?
Located just 100 meters from the marina, the Orada Apartamentos Turísticos offers large apartments with a fully equipped kitchen, single beds, and futons. Available from €44 per night, you'll enjoy an outdoor pool, parking, a pleasant garden, and even a snack-bar service. The staff is friendly, and the train station is easily accessible on foot.
With an outdoor pool, restaurant, bar, and spa, the Cerro Da Marina Hotel is a superb establishment. It's located just 700 meters from the beach and offers large, comfortable rooms starting at €126 per night, with breakfast included. Ideal for families, water parks and zoos are nearby, and a car rental service is provided on-site
What is the Best Season to Visit Albufeira?
Summer is clearly the best season to go to Albufeira when temperatures are warm and the weather is perfect for swimming. Generally, the Algarve attracts all summer tourists, but you should book your accommodation as soon as possible since it is the peak tourist season with high prices!
A better alternative is available: spring and fall. During these periods, temperatures range from 17 to 25 degrees, a pleasant climate to enjoy the sun's rays. In other words, the months of April, May, June, and September are ideal for saving money while enjoying the Algarve.
How to Get to Albufeira?
If you're wondering how to get to Albufeira, flying is the best option! However, you'll need to land at Faro Airport, located about 35 kilometers east of the resort. In terms of prices, it's possible to find cheap flight tickets to Albufeira, ranging from about €50 to €70 per person for a round trip
Of course, the price depends on the period and the city of departure, but the prices are reasonable. Once at Faro Airport, I recommend renting a car or taking a taxi to reach the center of Albufeira. Expect to pay about €55 for a taxi ride, and around thirty euros for a private transfer.
